‘A Nun For The Viking Warrior’ by Lucy Morris is a Mills & Boon historical story that certainly keeps you reading. I have read a few Mills & Boon books over the last year and have enjoyed them all. This particular story is set in Northmannia (Normandy) in 912 AD. I always love a historical story and this was even more interesting for me, being Viking related.

Noblewoman Amée Évreaux had pledged her life to God, until her father promised her in marriage to thundering Norseman, Jorund Jötunnson. After escaping her overbearing father, Amée vows never to fall under another man’s thumb, but her resistance to being Jorund’s wife turns to desire as she gets to know her intriguing new husband. For beneath his fierce exterior she’s glimpsed an unexpectedly pure heart. If only she can penetrate the fortress that surrounds it…
I was hooked from the start with this historical romance. Thrown straight into the action where we see Amée finding her future is less certain than she ever thought. She goes from taking her vows to become a Nun into a position she never wanted to be in. Married to Jorund a big, overbearing Viking, who claims he is the Lord of the lands of her childhood.
These two characters have chemistry for sure. Jorund is just so sweet, A warrior who just wants to be loved by Amée, he has a vulnerability that you wouldn’t expect with such a tough and powerful man. You can’t help having a soft spot for him. Amée is a woman who upon finding out that she has to marry Jorund, is obviously fearful of the future and what it holds. She is a woman you can’t help being invested in. She has always felt that she never found her place in the world. She may be scared of her new circumstances but she can’t stop herself from showing her true character showing her strength and willingness to stand up for herself and anyone who needs help.

Being a Mills & Boon book it would be remiss of me not to mention the romance and the heat in this story. The build-up of the sexual tension between these two was almost sizzling. With the underlying nervousness and both of their fears when they eventually give in to their desires it makes for a satisfying end, or maybe start. I suppose it depends on how you want to look at it.
Lucy Morris has written a detailed and rich historical story. She recreates medieval France and its people so well. The intricate details are enough to allow my imagination to give me the picture of the characters and the surrounding landscape too. This is expertly interwoven into the romance of the story without being boring or too much. The research she must have done to bring this story to life must be immense.

I am never happier when I am reading and learning too. This is another book that whisked me away to a time I don’t know too much about. A richly detailed historic and yet romantic story with characters I was so invested in too. My first Lucy Morris book and I loved being swept away with the story.
Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Mills & Boon for the copy of the book.
