‘Windswept’ by Annabelle McCormack is book 1 in the Windswept Saga. A historical fiction novel set in World War 1. I love my history and both World Wars are so interesting for me so this was a no brainer to jump on the tour when invited by the wonderful Anne Cater of Random Things Tours, thank you for my invite.

Lady Virginia Whitman, is the daughter of an Earl, but wants more than just to be a socialite. She signs up to be a nurse in the Great War with her friend Beatrice. From this moment she is known as Ginger Whitman. They are stationed as Military Nurses on the Front line in Palestine. As the story unfolds we see Ginger having a chance encounter with a severely injured soldier who claims to carry intelligence unmasking a secret plot against the British—and that traitors within British intelligence are searching for him. Desperate and dying, the soldier entrusts a coded message to her care. Finding herself thrown into a world of danger and suspense in the Arabian desert Ginger is in turmoil, not knowing who is trustworthy. As she attempts to find her way in this shadowy world she experiences much more than she could have ever imagined.
With a strong female main character and a storyline that almost has a little bit of everything ‘Windswept’ is a book that entranced and captivated me. Truly brimming with adventure, intrigue, mystery and even romance, this novel kept me glued to my seat while I followed Ginger in her new role.
I found the characters well developed and they felt real. Ginger was such an interesting woman who, as the story developed, I really wished wouldn’t have to cope with the situations she got into. When I feel like this, I know the book has great characters.

This is a novel that overall is a superb example of a sweeping saga set in a land that allows you to escape from your normal life for the length of time it takes to read it. I am just happy that the second book is in the works!
Thanks to Annabelle McCormack for my copy of this book.
