‘Black Reed Bay’ by Rod Reynolds is described as a ‘twisty breath-taking police procedural’. Published by Orenda Books who just happen to be my favourite publisher. I have read previous books of Rod Reynolds and find them a fantastically engrossing read. Again I was not disappointed by the quality of Ray Reynolds writing. I couldn’t put it down.

Black Reed Bay introduces us to a new character, Detective Casey Wray and he starts has he means to go on. We see a woman running from a man. So scared for her life she calls the police but before they can complete the call, the call is ended. Detective Casey Wray and her team begin to try to discover more about this woman and what has happened. Then a body is discovered and Casey realises that there is something much more sinister afoot. They aren’t prepared for just how much more sinister.

Casey is a great lead character, she is a strong and determined woman who has worked hard to become a detective. We see her struggle on occasions with everything but her need to get justice shines through. I enjoyed the teamwork between Casey and her partner Cullen. They are so familiar with each other they don’t always need words to know how each other are or what they are thinking.
Rod Reynolds really has the setting of Black Reed Bay down to a T. I could picture a wintery Long Island, with the massive bridge between the rich and the poor. We see the rich country golf clubs and on the other hand, missing girls and prostitution. Casey and Cullen have to dig between these worlds to find out the truth.
Rod Reynolds has again written a story full of twists and turns that don’t let up from the start. It’s a pacey story that keeps you glued to the book because you are wondering which people can be trusted and which can’t. This adds to the suspense as you end up thinking you have it all sorted and it turns out you haven’t got a clue again!
