M.W. Arnold – Wild Blue Yonder

‘Wild Blue Yonder’ by M.W Arnold is the Broken Wings Book Two. A historical fiction cosy mystery novel. I haven’t read the first in the series but this can be read as a Standalone as any references to previous events are explained well enough so you don’t get lost in the book.

M.W. Arnold

Set during the Second World War, the story centres around a group of women who work at the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA). They live and work together and are best friends. Multiple small storylines feature each of the women. So I got to know each individual character quite well including Bobby the dog, their early warning system for If danger is on its way.

I really got immersed in this book. I love history for one, and the roles of women in the second world war is a subject I shall never tire of. The authors attention to detail is fabulous and I felt like I could be there. I enjoyed the relationships between these women and felt I was part of the group.

There are light-hearted moments in the book but we also see the serious realities of war. There is one part of the story that brings home the danger and the risks pilots take every time they go on a sortie. Then the emotional side too, for those who have members of the family who are already POW’s (prisoners of war).

A superbly written book that clearly has been researched so thoroughly that it shines through the pages. The authenticity makes for such an engrossing read. The vivid and very realistic story brings it home to you just how much people sacrificed in those days.

Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and M.W Arnold for my gifted copy of the book.
