‘Summer at Blue Sands Cove’ by C.P. Ward is the first book in a series called Glorious Summer. This is another author whose work I have been unaware of until this blog tour invite arrived. I really didn’t know what to expect as I settled down to read this book but am happy to report it is a fabulous read!

We meet Grace, a woman tired of the city so she returns to Blue Sands, a small Cornish seaside village where she grew up. Part of the reason for returning is Gavin, her now ex-boyfriend who blamed her for making his anxiety worse and the fact that she lost her job after she tipped a hot drink over a customer. It didn’t matter that the customer was behaving inappropriately at the time.
Her friend invites her back to her childhood home to help her in her cafe, so Grace decides to return so she can catch up with her best friend, try to renew her friendships with old friends and ultimately heal. Will this trip back to her childhood village hold what she really needs or will it be as disastrous as her life in the city?

I loved Grace immediately, a woman who can’t seem to catch a break. Everybody (including her ex-boss) blaming her for what is going wrong for them. In my opinion, I think I would have thrown a drink over the boss as well! Her relationship, well, I think that was one fantastically lucky escape and she can do 100% better.
I was transported back to the times I have spent in Cornwall when I was reading this and felt like I really knew Grace as a friend too. I felt like I needed to ‘stay’ in Cornwall so couldn’t put the book down as I needed to know if Grace found the happiness she deserved. C.P.Ward has created characters that are so well rounded they feel like they could be friends.

A well-written story with a brilliant main character and a story that whisks you away to sunny Cornwall. What more could I want? A book for anyone who is yearning for a lighthearted read and fancies a virtual holiday in Cornwall too.
Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and C.P.Ward for the gifted copy of the book.
