Amanda Paull – Colouring Outside The Lines

‘Colouring Outside The Lines’ by Amanda Paull is a heartwarming tale of broken dreams. This author is another one I have not read before but I am so happy I read this story and discovered this author.

Amanda Paull

Having spent her twenties and thirties enjoying life with good friends and building a career she loves, it’s taken Katie until her forties to contemplate settling down. And she couldn’t be more delighted she waited.
So, why is her perfect groom standing gawping at her, wearing mismatched socks and sweating buckets? This can’t bode well.

With her special day in tatters, Katie has a decision to make. Does she snatch back the reins of her old life and tighten her grip even more, or should she take a chance on change? Will she find the key to happiness at a Pilates class in a smelly old hall? Or is the curveball heading her way too huge to handle?

This is a book that made me laugh throughout. It does include subjects such as love, life, loss and muddling through even if everything isn’t perfect.

Katie has all her lists checked and double-checked. Everything is sorted and she is heading for the aisle to wed in her own controlled way. A boring married life looms in front of her until there is a spanner thrown in the works and she has some revelations coming that is set to make her re-evaluate exactly what she wants.

The mayhem that ensues really put a smile on my face as we see Katie’s family playing their own role, particularly her mum! Katie wasn’t as amused as me as despite her organisation the chaos is a bit much.

I wish I was half as organised as Katie, I am more of the muddle through sort and can see how maddening the chaos and mayhem would wind her up!

Although there are a lot of comedic parts to the story, as the layers peel away we see a little deeper and that it is about Katie and her journey of self-discovery that the mayhem kicks off for her. This is a touching tender and enjoyable read with characters that are so true to life that you can relate to most of them.

Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Amanda Paull for the gifted copy of the book.
