David Craig – Lord Of The Hunt

‘Lord of the Hunt’ by David Craig is the second book in the Sooty Feathers series. I read and reviewed ‘Resurrection Men’ in July 2020 so I was really looking forward to this book.

David Craig

This story starts with Kerry Knox being trained by Lady Delaney. During the training, Kerry kills a vampire (a Nephilim) and is watched by Lady Delaney. As the story unfolds we see Lady Delaney and Kerry begin to investigate an increase in child deaths and discover something vile and disturbing. Wilton Hunt and Tam Foley are travelling up to the Highlands to visit Wilton’s parents. On their way to the estate, weird events begin to happen, leaving the two men every so slightly bewildered at what plays out. Meanwhile, the demon Arakiel has sent one of his servants to London to get help from a dangerous and very powerful necromancer who can control the dead.

A book that is paced perfectly for the story that just flows as smoothly as Resurrection Men did. I would say to get a better feel for the characters read the first book and then this. I must say David Craig has done a fabulous job of making sure the readers who haven’t read the first are quickly brought up to date. He also lets the reader know what has happened to the characters in the interim time between books. I am someone who revels in reading a series from the first book, I feel it gives me more depth to the characters.

Again David Craig’s worldbuilding is excellent, Glasgow comes to life in an atmospheric and vivid way. The times of days gone by feel like they are right there in front of you. His love of the area is apparent through the scenes he so richly describes. His characters are again, well made and so realistic. I enjoyed the return of Hunt and Foley as well.

A well created, gripping and again, an immersive tale that I thought was a cleverly woven tale with fantasy and historical fiction merging together in a great way. Just waiting for number three now.

Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and David Craig.
