Marie Laval – Angel Of The Lost Treasure

‘Angel of the Lost Treasure’ by Marie Laval is a historical fiction woven with suspense that I can only liken to a Dan Brown-esque story, that swept me away, straight to nineteenth-century France.

Marie Laval

We are introduced to Marie – Ange, who has been a widow for six years and is going to France to collect the family inheritance that will be very welcome. Her travelling companion is to be Capitaine Saintclair, as women in that time did not travel alone. He is a bit of a brusque fellow and that alone is enough to cause the two to clash straight away. He is a little bit of an enigma too.

What begins as a journey to collect an inheritance turns into something much more mysterious and intriguing. France is an ever-changing country as Marie-Ange arrives and it seems there is danger everywhere. Upon meeting her relative it is clear there is a totally different agenda to what she initially assumed her visit to France was for. Malleval, her relative is obsessed with a certain piece of treasure and he will go to any lengths to gain it. This means Marie-Ange has to be so careful in whom she trusts which leaves her attempting to carefully find her way through this situation she has found herself in.

A tale that has such richness in the detail of the period. An atmospheric and emotional story that as I said, had me from the start. So many mysteries for Marie-Ange to attempt to solve, some so important to her and her life too. I loved that it is not just historical and Marie Laval has woven secret societies that link back to the Knights Templar. I was in awe as I sped through the book. There is also romance to be had, Marie-Ange and her companion have an attraction and we see how that chemistry sizzles as the story unfolds.

I hated reaching the last page as it meant I was leaving Marie-Ange behind and this world I had inhabited for the last day, I was so engrossed!

Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me to be a part of this delightful books’ tour and Choc Lit for my copy of the book.
