Louise Worthington – Dr Glass

‘Dr Glass’ by Louise Worthington is a dark psychological thriller that is a tough but gripping read. I have read this author’s work previously so was quite excited, to say the least when I saw I was invited to be a part of the blog tour for Dr Glass. I couldn’t wait to start reading this book. This story does have some trigger warnings for suicide, self-harm and murder. It’s incredibly dark and a bit disturbing at times, but an absorbing and great read.

Louise Worthington

We follow Dr Emma-Jane Glass, a clinical psychologist. She has recently written an article about the psychology of matricide and is interviewed on local radio. After the interview, Emma-Jane begins receiving hate mail and then is kidnapped in this shocking psychological thriller.

The book begins with quite a slow pace as Louise Worthington introduces the characters. The beginning chapters are narrated from different points of view so we get to know them and understand what drives them. This gives us a fuller picture of the story and can understand the characters more. The characters have been developed really well with each one having their own voice. This comes across as more realistic and made it even easier to become immersed in the book. I actually couldn’t tell you that I liked many of the characters. I found something with almost all…but isn’t that life too? Not many people are 100% good or bad. There are the shaded parts that we all have, the book seemed to me to echo life and the humans in it.

When Emma-Jayne is taken the story takes off at such a pace there was no putting this one down for a while. The hardest parts of the story mainly lie in this section, the time she spends with her kidnapper. It becomes quite disturbing as we see Emma-Jayne discovering she is developing feelings for her kidnapper.

This is the first book in a new series called Glass Minds. If this first book is anything to benchmark against Louise Worthington will have a damn good series eventually.

A deep and very dark story that no matter how disturbing it became I could not tear myself away.

Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Red Escape Publishing for my copy of the book.
