‘Retribution’ by Christina O’Reilly is the second book I have read by this author, the first being ‘Into The Void’. When I received an invitation to this blog tour I jumped at the chance and I have to say I am so happy I did.
A body of a woman is discovered dead and DSS Archie Baldrick and DC Ben Travers are called in to investigate. They eventually identify her as a Lucy Martin but that is when the mystery begins. It seems her husband knew next to nothing about her, her family and even her past. It becomes even more of a puzzle as they find she rented a bach in the same area that she died in. Baldrick and Travers begin to wonder if there is more to this case than they first thought. The further they investigate the more puzzling it becomes and the amount o suspects start to increase. Could her death be connected to her past?
I am so happy to be able to have returned to the world of Baldrick and Travers. I loved their dynamic in ‘Into The Void’ and still do. They are a team I would like to have fight my corner anyway. Christina has again created characters that are well rounded with all the right details to make them relatable and realistic. This is another book I couldn’t leave for any length of time, I was so engrossed in the story I needed to know how it was going to turn out.
A story with suspense and drama almost oozing out of the pages. The twists placed in just the right places had me guessing all the way and a conclusion you really don’t see coming. All in all a fantastic read that I definitely recommend.
