Karen Clarke – And Then She Ran

‘And Then She Ran’ by Karen Clarke is a psychological thriller that just creeps up on you and next thing you know you are checking over your own shoulder while reading this book.

Grace made the momentous decision to get her eight-week-old baby in her carrycot and run as far as she can away from New York and away from Patrick. She is now in Wales with her Aunt Morag living in an isolated cottage, doing her best to make a new start. She just can’t stop feeling like she is being watched. Then comes the day she finds a scrap of paper on her bed, with ‘ Keep her close. Anything can happen.” On it. Patrick has found her and wants his baby back…Grace will go to any lengths to stop him.

Karen Clarke has written a fast-paced and intriguing thriller that grabs you from the start. I didn’t have a clue where the ending was going but I enjoyed every minute of the ride to get there. As the story unfolds we slowly learn exactly why Grace has run away from her old life. Karen Clarke has placed amazing twists and turns so I was reading this and my heart was in my mouth. Definitely what I call a predictable story! To say the least.

The relationship between Grace and Aunt Morag shows their differences, but after the initial start they settle with each other and, I think, it is apparent that Morag and Grace have more than just familial bonds between them.

‘And Then She Ran’ is an enthralling thriller that has quite an unusual plot and the author has drawn many different themes in this story and spun a book worthy of the 2 days it took me to read this.

With thanks to HQ and NetGalley for my place on the tour and copy of the book.
