J.E. Rowney – Starting Out

‘Starting Out’ by J.E Rowney is the new instalment of Violet, a newly qualified midwife. There are previous books that charted Violet’s journey but I haven’t read all of them only one. I have to say, I may not be up to speed with the series but a few pages into the story and I was already invested in Violet and her journey.

J.E. Rowney

Midwifery training was tough for Violet, but now she has to venture onto the ward as a newly qualified midwife. She’s standing on the cusp of her new life, but taking the leap is harder than she ever expected.
Her best friend has moved out to start a new life with her husband to be Luke and Violet is now living alone and everything is changing for her. The question is will she take life by the hands and grab it or will her anxiety get the better of her?

This chapter of Violet’s life sees her having completed her midwifery training even with the worries, stress and anxiety that threatened to scupper her chances at times. I really empathised with Violet and could understand her anxieties. Not only is she beginning her professional career but she has to adjust her home life too. She is such a relatable character, with all her self doubts you can’t help but take her to your heart. She was expecting to qualify and everything would be great. It isn’t until she is actually at that point that she realises there is still a mountain to climb.

The book is written in such a way that you really need to see how Violet will come through it all. J.E Rowney definitely knows her stuff, the amount of details made me feel like I was in that hospital by the side of Violet, as she was working away. I liked this that much I am planning on going back and reading the previous books too. A marvellous story.

Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and J.E Rowney for my place on the tour and the copy of the book.
