‘The Liar’s Daughter’ by Rona Halsall is a book I was looking forward to getting stuck into. Rona Halsall is an author that always writes an intriguing story, so I expected good things.

Eva is helping her step mum Linda look after her dad who has been diagnosed with dementia and his condition is getting worse. Linda, her step mum receives a phone call saying that Eva’s sister is in hospital after being involved in an accident, but Eva is an only child, isn’t she? She doesn’t have a clue what’s going on but is certain that someone has been lying to her for her whole life, so Eva decides to travel to Wales to meet her sister Nancy, and look after her while she recovers, and hopefully get some answers while she’s there, but things are never that easy, are they?
Told over multiple timelines, the present and the past, as the past is unravelled the present becomes clearer. The secrets and lies this story holds makes it a dark read. Rona Halsall has skillfully woven the story together so well you don’t expect some of the secrets that come tumbling out!
The story is told from Eva and Nancy’s perspectives, which I enjoyed as I got to know these characters as well as gained the bigger picture from both women’s sides. The characters themselves, well I really felt for Eva, she had an awful lot to take in, with revelations from every corner, I just wanted to give her a hug. Nancy, well I wasn’t too sure but I won’t say more I will leave it in your capable hands to discover.

A psychological thriller that is a story of family, mental health and betrayal as well as other themes. Rona Halsall has brought this dark twisty story with characters that add to the suspense and created an unputdownable book! I could not put this down for any length of time! From the first to last page I was hooked. Yet another fantastic book from this author, here’s to the next one!
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the copy of the book.
