Kerry Buchanan – Knife Edge

‘Knife Edge’ by Kerry Buchanan is the first book in the Detectives Harvey and Birch mysteries series. The thing I adore about blogging is discovering new authors. Kerry Buchanan is definitely new to me and I am so happy I got the chance to find out just how good she really is. A thriller set in Northern Ireland makes it a bit different to my usual ones set in the U.K..

Kerry Buchanan

Nicola “Nic” Gordon goes for a night out and wakes up bound, gagged and tortured, listening to her friend being murdered. She manages to escape but the killer isn’t yet done with her and she ends up helping DS Asha Harvey and DC Aaron Birch in their investigation.

The story is mainly told from Nic’s point of view and we read a few from the killer themself. The fact we get it from Nic’s perspective does aid greatly in giving us more depth to the story and getting to know Nic as well as Birch and Harvey. I liked all three of these characters and am looking forward to getting to know Birch and Harvey more in the future hopefully.
Kerry Buchanan has succeeded in her tight plotting to keep the tension up. She has created a tense and very exciting story that held my attention that much I read it over two sittings. She has written enough twists and turns within the story that as the reader, you just don’t quite know what will happen next.

A great debut! Kerry Buchanan has brought us two coppers that I loved reading about and her pacing was perfect. I look forward to more Birch and Harvey…soon! I hope anyway.

Thanks to Jill Burkinshaw and Joffe Books for my place on the tour and the copy of the book.
