Miranda Rijks – The Influencer

‘The influencer’ by Miranda Rijks is a psychological thriller that I was so looking forward to reading. Miranda Rijks always ticks all the right boxes for me. I have read quite a few of her books and was itching to open the book.

Miranda Rijks

Skye is a social media megastar and an inspiration. She was homeless and turned her life around. She is extremely rich and enormously powerful. If you ever manage to get a ‘like’ from her it has the power to change your life.

So when she suggests partnering with Nathan’s charity for the homeless, he thinks it’s a match made in heaven. With Skye’s backing, who knows what he can achieve? And no one is more excited than Nathan’s teenage daughters, both massive fans of the star.

But it soon becomes clear that Skye’s influence comes at a price. Yes, funds are pouring into Nathan’s charity, but she is a smothering presence, seemingly determined to insert herself into every nook and cranny of his family life.

His girls are over the moon to be having so much close contact with their idol, but Nathan isn’t as keen as he wonders about Skye’s influence over his daughters. His personal life has been falling apart since she has been around, but is this a coincidence or not? As everything falls apart Nathan wonders what Skye really wants from him and his girls. The answer could be even scarier than he could imagine.

Miranda Rijks has brought a topic that is so relevant to today’s society and everyone should read this book. It may make some people think more about their online presence and the influence of social media in today’s world. Miranda Rijks has made such a convincing character with Skye, she literally jumped off the page with her popular personality and her ‘brand’.
We see Nathan attempting to find out about Skye’s secrets and as he does she retaliates by aiming for his girls. She is very aware of his weaknesses and aims for them to make him fall into line.

All I can say is this book really played with my head because of the reality of the social media issue. Everybody thinks they would love to be an influencer and a ton of reality stars have made it their mission to be ‘THE’ influencer for all these kids today. Everyone has an agenda and I feel an influencer is using exactly that.

Another book from Miranda Rijks that had me hooked from the first to the last page. Her skills of placing twists in just the right places is honed to perfection. I am impatiently waiting for her next release.

Thanks to Emma at Damp Pebbles Blog Tours and Inkubator books for the copy of the book.
