C.E. Rose – The House Of Hidden Secrets

‘The House of Hidden Secrets’ by C.E. Rose is a suspenseful read that had me almost glued to the kindle. I actually expected nothing else when I picked this book up. C.E Rose is really Caroline England (that’s a secret, don’t tell anyone else!) and I have never read a bad book from her. This book has a beautiful cover that begs you to pick it up and just read till you can’t read any longer.

Serena has taken the position of carer to Hayden Ramsay and housekeeper too, at the family home in Cheshire. Living with him are his two sons Jack and Hugh. It became pretty clear undercurrents are running in this family. Hugh seems the uneasiest than any of the others. For some reason, he was banished from the family home and was living in less than ideal conditions in a caravan at the farm where he worked. But in other ways, he was happier than any of the others seemed to be.

The story is told from three points of view, Serena, Jack and Hugh, I really enjoy multiple characters giving us their story it allows you to discover more and get to know all the characters better so I felt like I was there in Ramsay Hall. The characters could have been real. As the story unfolded the secrets started to break the surface. It did make the story a slightly uneasy one, not really what I call a light and cosy read.

Every one of the three has their own issues and secrets and as I said they begin to surface and the manipulator attempts to use everyone to their own devices, when it doesn’t work to their advantage the true colours begin to peek out. These characters were all well fleshed out and I wasn’t overly keen on some and liked others. They all had their part to play with their unique personalities and flaws.

An intense, twisty story that gives you a different view of everything and everyone whenever the next chapter comes along. An excellent book from C.E. Rose.

Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Hera Books for my copy of the book.
