‘The Hoax’ by Paul Clayton is his second book and my second experience of reading his work. This story is a psychological thriller with a bit of a slant. The synopsis made me wonder where this book would go, so I just had to jump on this tour with Rachel’s Random Resources.

Frankie is a woman who is doing her best to make ends meet as well as a fantastic mother. One day Henry her youngest child goes missing, he is returned by Cora, a woman who seems to have appeared out of nowhere but seems to be changing Frankie’s family’s life’s for the better. That is until things start to go badly wrong…Is Cora helping them with their dream or is she the stuff of their nightmares?
Paul Clayton is an author with tons of skill and this clearly shines in this book. He has successfully managed to create an everyday family and make an intriguing and fast-paced story. I was immersed from the very beginning. The story is told from dual timelines and as the story unfolds we see they are going to collide with the maximum impact possible and we are thrown headlong into a mystery with an ending you wouldn’t normally expect.

I was curious about Frankie and Cora, very relatable and real women. Again you can tell the quality of Paul Clayton’s writing, he develops the characters well throughout the book.

A worthy second book for this author. ‘The Hoax’ is an engrossing and interesting thriller for anyone who enjoys something that will keep you on the edge of your seat with believable characters in tow too.
Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Paul Clayton for the copy of the book.
