Bonnie MacBird – The Three Locks (A Sherlock Holmes Adventure)

‘The Three Locks (A Sherlock Holmes Adventure)’ by Bonnie MacBird is the fourth book in the Sherlock Holmes Adventures. This is the first of Bonnie MacBird’s books I have read. I do enjoy Sherlock Holmes books and was happy to be offered this tour.

Bonnie MacBird

We are in the year 1887 as the book begins and Watson receives delivery of a mysterious impregnable box one that is locked and with a secret from his past. A famous escape artist has a trick that goes fatally wrong. In Cambridge we see three suitors, a priest, a physicist and an aristocrat all attempting to woo a spiteful beauty who goes missing after a dismembered doll in her image is found in the River Cam. These cases all converge into each other as we see Sherlock and Watson get tangled in a web of bureaucracy and siblings. They dice with danger as they attempt to stop the innocent dying wrongfully.

As I said I have not read a Sherlock Holmes novel by Bonnie MacBird before but as I settled with my brew and book and embarked upon my journey with Sherlock and Watson I realised that this story was perfect for me. Bonnie MacBird’s writing and attention to detail is exquisite. Her ability to transport the reader to the 19th century is second to none, I felt like I was part of the investigation in a very real way and I think that she has weaved a tale that brings Sherlock and Holmes back in such a way that she rivals the original stories.

Bonnie MacBird has given the classic Sherlock and Watson characters voices that stand the test of comparison. I think this is an exceptional book and need to now read the others!

Thanks to Random Little Things Tours and Harper Fiction for my copy of the book and my place on the tour.
