Carol Rivers – Girl With Secrets

‘Girl With Secrets’ by Carol Rivers is a wartime saga set in WW2. A story that ticked all the boxes needing to be ticked to create a poignant, engrossing, gritty and real wartime saga.

Carol Rivers

Daisy Purbright is 9 years old, along with her mother, father and brothers she lives in the Isle Of Dogs London. The only girl she is the apple of her father’s eye and he is sure she is set for big things. In 1938 war is being murmured around the country and her brother Matt is wanting to join the RAF but their mother wants him to go into the family business on the docks, of electrical engineering which is currently run by their father and Uncle Ed. Time goes on and 1939 arrives and Daisy is keeping a secret, one that will blow her Aunt Betty and Uncle Ed’s lives apart.

A story told by Daisy, a young girl who is being raised through the horrors of wartime, the family dramas, the bombing and also evacuation all the while scared that Hitler would land on English soil at any point. The characters are well written and help to make the story feel so real. I was carried back to World War Two and experiencing the horror through a child’s eyes along with the secrets kept and the danger of wartime too.

A heartfelt story in which Carol Rivers has researched thoroughly and written with a clear passion. A book for any historical saga lovers out there.

Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Carol Rivers for the book and my place on the tour
