‘A little Birdie Told Me’ by Sharley Scott is a fun and realistic blast from the past. I was seventeen in 1988 when this novel is set and I can clearly remember watching Neighbours and being glued to the screen for their wedding. I reminisced my way through this touching and deeply satisfying read. I don’t read overly many of these type of books so I haven’t read anything by Sharley Scott but again, I have found an author that can lighten my load in life by sending me somewhere else for a while.

We meet Belinda who has lost her way through life and has a lack of self-confidence due to being bullied by a lecturer. Her best friend has helped her to get a job in an old people’s home and she is determined to do well. She meets a colleague Joe who is supportive and she finds she really cares for the residents she cares for. Joe and Belinda both become concerned when some of the residents things go missing and they are suspicious of the way some staff treat the weaker and more vulnerable residents. We see Belinda having a decision to make, to say nothing or tell someone so the residents and their stuff will be safe.

This is a story of finding love in places you never thought possible while finding your inner strength to deal with a situation you know you have to. Belinda is on a journey and it teaches her to love herself and fight for what is most definitely right. The residents are a colourful set and we see Joe has his own secrets he needs to get off his chest. All in all a heartwarming story that took me back to my teens immediately.
Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Sharley Scott for my spot on the tour and the copy of the book for today.
