‘A Chance Encounter’ by Rae Shaw is a crime thriller by an author that is new to me and if there is one thing I like it is discovering new authors.

Julianna Baptiste, a feisty bodyguard, is finding her new job on the boring side until her boss Jackson Haynes with his unwarranted interest in a brother and sister and a wife who is receiving threats sparks her interest. Mark works for the Haynes and is hiding from money launderers. He has a sister called Ellen who is hiding a secret. Their father has been in prison for eight years, claiming he is innocent but the evidence says different. With this against his father Mark is pressing for an appeal, but why? Julianna decides to put her investigating skills to good use and prove herself to her boss. She has Mark facing up to his past errors but has she made a grave mistake?
A book that starts as it means to go on. I found it a fairly fast-paced story with no lagging of the story or pace. The story is split with chapters being dedicated to each character and the story was woven together well and read really smoothly. It is a book that draws you in and before you know it you have been reading for almost 2 hours. I felt like I lost a day or two reading this. For me, that is definitely the sign of a good book.

I like Julianna, and enjoyed this book as we see the feistiness come out and when she decides to go investigating she has absolutely no clue what will happen but she decides in her wisdom to plough on. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future.

A gripping read with twists and turns aplenty. One I would recommend for sure.
Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Spare Time Press for my place on the tour and the copy of the book.
