David Blake – Horsey Mere

‘Horsey Mere’ by David Blake is the fifth book of the D.I Tanner series. This is a series I have only read one previous book from this series and found that I had no problem just dipping into the series here, although I always end up reading the full series, it isn’t absolutely necessary.

The burial site of Elizabeth Craddock is discovered in Norfolk at Horsey Mere. Elizabeth was the last ever known witch to be executed in Norfolk back in the 17th century and a newspaper publishes an article that a local M.P Patrick Hopkins is a direct descendant of the Witchfinder General Matthew Hopkins. After the article is published the M.P is found dead at home hanged by his neck and a five-point star drawn under his body on the floor. Faced with a puzzle of had Patrick done this himself or are the team dealing with something else?
They suspect murder so DI John Tanner, DS Jenny Evans, together with DS Vicky Gilbert, DC Sally Beech and DI Cooper are put on the case. There are numerous suspects for them to look into. As well as this case they have several assaults being made on women who look ethnically different. The question is are these racist attacks or something way more sinister.

A series I have loved every time I have dipped into it. The characters all have a great relationship with each other and the character development is an integral part of the plot, which is excellently researched and executed. I liked that this book involved something that was something different, it was a refreshing change.

Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources and Black Oak Publishing for my place on the tour and the copy of the book.
