Sheila Rawlings – Beneath The Fear

‘Beneath The Fear’ by Sheila Rawlings is a gripping story. One which is full cleverly placed twists and red herrings. There were plenty of times I thought I had cracked it, only to discover I was nowhere near the truth.

Sheila Rawlings

We follow Samantha who is only just discovering what the majority of people have already found when they reach the age of a young adult. That life not only brings joy and love but loss, heartbreak and also tragedy at any moment. She has witnessed the murder of her husband and is attempting to heal. Samantha has moved to Cornwall and thinks she could never experience anything worse than the loss of her husband…she thought wrong…

Sheila Rawlings is a new author for me and I found I enjoyed her writing style. A story that definitely kept me interested and flipping the pages. I tend to think that the sign of a good book is when you begin to feel empathy for the characters and can almost sense the emotions radiating out of the pages. Sam’s grief is so powerful it was almost palpable.

The story is mainly written from Sam’s point of view but as we go further into the story we find some chapters were from Nathan’s point of view as well. This was great, Nathans Cornish dialect was used so created even more depth to his character too.
‘Beneath The Fear’ by Sheila Rawlings was an immersive, exciting and edge of my seat read which has left me happy to have found yet another author, and impatient for her next book.

Thanks again go to Rachel’s Random Resources and Sheila Rawlings for my place on this Tour and the copy of the book.
