Jennifer Bohnet – One Summer In Monte Carlo

‘One Summer in Monte Carlo’ by Jennifer Bohnet is a book that is perfect if you feel like escaping in this miserable lockdown.

Jennifer Bohnet

Nanette has been asked by her friend and employer, Vanessa to look after her children in the Principality of Monte Carlo, a place she vowed never to return to, for a few months, Nanette knew she had no choice but to go.

Her history with Monte Carlo is a heartbreaking one due to the fact that three years ago she was involved in a car accident with her then-fiancé, F1 driver Zac. An accident in which Zac walked away from and Nanette was airlifted back to the UK, never to see Zac again. She returns and so does the annual F1 world-renowned race…along with Zac as well.

I have never visited Monte Carlo but this book gave me an absolutely vivid description that played in my imagination. I have seen the F1 race on TV but I felt like I was there with all the thrills of the racing in this beautiful place. The celebrations during this time are described so well that you can feel the atmosphere almost too.

The story takes place in Monte Carlo with Nanette and the children and we also spend time in the Amazon with Vanessa and Ralph, who are filming a documentary to raise awareness of how the environment is being impacted by how the villages live. These two destinations could not be any more different if they tried and this aspect of the story is really interesting to read to.

I really enjoyed this book and, as I have read nothing by Jennifer Bohnet before, I am almost afraid to say…I have to read others by her when I have the time.

Big thanks to Rachel’s Random Resou errrces and Boldwood Books for the copy of the book.
