Chris Roy – Her Name Is Mercie

‘Her Name Is Mercie’ is largest of five stories in a collection of dark noir thrillers, written by Chris Roy with Craig Douglas being the illustrator.

We meet Mercie Hillbrook a young woman who still lives at home with her mum and dad, she works in a gas station as an attendant. But her life is turned upside down one night as her parents are killed, and the killers get away with it as they were just “doing their job!” With the loss of her parents she loses everything, her home, inheritance and everything meaningful. She sets herself on a path of no return, with nothing to lose but her own life.

This novella is an action-packed, fast-paced story that throws Mercie full-on into a ton of adventures and puts her at the hands of several unscrupulous ‘law enforcers’. The realistic and gritty pictures we are given of her time spent in a women’s prison shows us Mercie show us the balance of a great story.

I was invited to join the blog tour for this book and had no clue what to expect. As an author Chris Roy is an unknown force, but by the time I had finished Her Name Is Mercie, I was hooked. The other four stories are dark, and have unsettling qualities, as well as being on the macabre side at times. Each story dealing with themes such as where evil comes from or madness even, and how close these aspects are in our everyday lives.

The various stories in this collection show me that Chris Roy is a writer who revels in suspense, he is one who creates a story to keep you hanging in there until you fall straight in head first… to find nothing to cushion the fall!

Thank you to Blackthorn Books and Chris Roy for my copy of the book for my review today.
