Oscar Wenman-Hyde – Chroma

‘Chroma’ by Oscar Wenman-Hyde is a story that shows us what divorce looks like through the eyes of a child and their imagination too.

Oscar Wenman-Hyde

We meet Riley and 8-year-old boy, whose parents are in the throes of divorcing, but attempt to keep this away from him. Riley himself knows there has been a change and it scares him as well as confusing him. Riley loves Armani Manora’s sci-fi films and is dying to watch his latest release Chroma. his mother Jean, realises herself he shouldn’t be watching films aimed for older people but decides they can watch it together. The only problem is Jean falls asleep, leaving Riley to Chroma the film and allowing his young mind to be open to the powers of it. Doesn’t help he is very imaginative and sensitive to boot.

This is a book that we wouldn’t normally see. The perspective of a child of divorce and we also have Jean and Riley’s dads viewpoint so we can see what is lacking and where things should be done differently. On the other hand, divorce is something everyone experiences in different ways due to different factors of the family.

An interesting book that made a refreshing change for me and I enjoyed it.
