‘The Visitors’ by Miranda Rijks is a psychological thriller that I was really looking forward to reading, after having read a number of her books and loved them all. The Visitors didn’t let me down. A standalone story so I just picked it up and jumped right in there.

We meet Hannah, a woman that you could say has it all. A husband who dotes on her and two gorgeous children. She just wants a project all for herself, so she decides to convert their stone barn into a holiday letting business alongside her music teaching. As she starts to take bookings everything starts to fall into place, for now. The second lot of holiday clients arrive and Hannah starts to see the other side of the holiday lettings business and it isn’t a pretty picture. The problem is impacted by her husband being away an awful lot. This leaves her to cope alone and as time passes she realises this is not just as simple as rowdy, brash customers…there is more to come.
This is anyone’s nightmare and I felt for Hannah, she seems like one of life’s lucky ones, until the day they turn up. This gives us the example that you can have it all and still end up in a really bad situation in the blink of an eye. Just needing to handle bad clients and try to get on with your daily grind when the clients are on the doorstep is bad enough, never mind when it goes so much further than that.

As always with a book by Miranda Rijks, I was stuck to the book. I enjoy her writing style and she always manages to hook me in immediately. Her characters are well developed and could be someone I know. They all have flaws just as we have but they create a fabulous story!
Thanks to Miranda Rijks, Damp Pebbles, Inkubator Books and BookSprout for my copy of the book to write this review for today.
