‘Bright Lies’ by A.A. Abbott is a psychological thriller that holds nothing back. The book starts with showing us Emily, the main character going to visit someone in prison in the present day. As the story develops we are taken back to Emily as a teenager.

We see Emily and her mum so happy because her mum was marrying a wealthy artist David. They thought everything would be great, until the days arrive when her new stepfather begins to expect more than daughterly things from Emily. This causes her to run away. She meets Jack who rescues her. He has no clue she is only 15 and knows secrets that aren’t just small ones.

A really dark and real, these things happen in life and this story had my mind running away with itself. I know firsthand the fallout from these things and the author has done a fantastic job to bring this to life in my head. There are a lot of triggers here for anyone sensitive to these issues and I found it a hard story but one that shows the real side of life and one that should be told.
A well written book that holds you from the start. Thanks to Random Things Tours and A.A. Abbott
