Mark Tilbury – The Abattoir Of Dreams

The Abattoir of Dreams by Mark Tilbury is a masterpiece of a story. One which will take your emotions to hell and back again. I have read a lot of Mark Tilbury’s work and no matter what I always come back to this book as being my favourite. It is a hard read, but everything Mark writes is always hard-hitting. A story of abuse, murder and also innocence.

Michael wakes up in hospital paralysed from the waist down with no idea how he got here and in this state. He can’t remember anything at all. D.I Carver arrives and Michael finds out he is accused of stabbing his girlfriend Becky to death. He only has other peoples accounts to rely on as he still has no memory. In hospital recovering from his head injuries and on max strength painkillers, he begins to experience hallucinations, vivid dreams and flashbacks. These in time aid him in recovering his memory, but all the while he is getting to a point where he will be transferred to prison on remand. Michael doesn’t realise there are influential and powerful people who have no wish for him to revisit his past.

I was glued to this book! What a rollercoaster of a read. Mark never lets me down in his work and this book ticks every box. His writing is exquisite, every scene is created with thought behind it. The darkness of human nature is on display throughout this book and we do see some lightness also. This is one book everyone should read, if only to show how a master crafts his work.

Thanks to Mark Tilbury for including me on this book blitz for the republication of ‘Abattoir Of Dreams’.
