Alison Knight – Mine

‘Mine’ by Alison Knight is a story based on real-life events and the synopsis drew me to want to read this book. A story about a ‘normal’ family in the sixties and how certain decisions create unusual situations.

I was certainly intrigued by the characters and I found myself burrowed into this story easily. The setting of the sixties was such a familiar one to me being born in 1971 and having parents that easily recounted tales from the sixties. In fact, my family could very easily fit into Lily and Jack’s lives, it is so familiar. I was back in the sixties with them and the writing was so good I went through every emotion the characters did.

What I especially liked about the way this is written is that Alison Knight has expertly created a well-balanced story, no right or wrong. Just told it straight from the heart. This immediately resonated with me as, I made a decision in my past and it led me down an extraordinary path that absolutely no-one expected of “Sensible Sharon”.

A realistic and vivid piece of storytelling that just shows that you may think you have everything but everyone is one step from a decision that can make or break you. I am now hoping to be able to read some more of Alison Knights books if Mine is anything to go by.

Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Alison Knight for my copy of the book for my review today.
