‘The Heat’ by Sean O’Leary is a book that grabs you and doesn’t loosen it’s grip until you have read that last page.
A book that is a compelling read about Jake, who is a casual drug user and loves spending his money on gambling too. On top of this, he is also a schizophrenic, which the drugs won’t improve, to say the least. He also ends up fighting constantly, because of his aggression. Even with all these things that Jake is, he still feels like he should help when help is needed. Angel, a prostitute that Jake loves ends up dead and he wants to avenge her death.
We are taken on a journey in Australia, through the seedy world of drug use, prostitution and even corruption. So not the tourist beaches this year in any way! Jake, to me, is a young man that, although he has so much going against him has more to him than the bad parts.
I found it an intriguing story as it unfolded and we saw the different sides to Jake as he discovered things about himself that he never knew before this point and he found himself being able to put some of his demons to bed, as they say. Not always an easy read but one that hits home just like the violence does throughout the story, but if you like a story that smacks you in the face and speeds you through till the end, this could be for you! I really enjoyed the ride.

Thanks to Damp Pebbles Blog Tours and Sean O’Leary for this clever fast-paced book for my review today.

Thanks again, lovely xx
