‘You Belong To Me’ by Mark Tilbury is a psychological thriller that, as always with one of Marks books is exceptionally well written and is a gritty tale of friendship, kidnap and murder.

A schoolgirl, Cassie goes missing at it seems like the past is about to catch up with the present day. At the same time, Danny is getting back into contact with his three school friends. These four troubled men reunite, although not as willingly as you imagine. We see that every one of them have endured difficult childhoods and have tried to get away from their pasts using any way possible, drugs, medication or even alcohol. Why does Danny need them together? And what secrets do they all hold?
Mark as always has managed to create four deeply troubled and damaged characters who carry guilt on their backs like a hallmark for anyone to notice. This guilt has been the foundation for their destructive behaviour since childhood, unable to form decent relationships, drugs and alcohol have fuelled their ways of life. I thought on one hand well, it is your own fault! On the other, there was a sliver of me actually having a little compassion and empathy for these men. Mark has that skill in his writing he could make me feel sorry for a wall!
As the story unfolds the secrets that keep these men locked in their pasts are slowly and skilfully revealed and we discover what changed four boys lives permanently. The further the story went, the darker and more chilling it became. A story of addiction, bullying and depression that spans the years and ruins peoples lives.

As dark and violent that ‘You Belong To Me’ is in it’s telling, Mark Tilbury has managed to balance the darkness with a touch of his famous dark humour as well. This is a genius touch he has a knack of with anything he writes. I love getting stuck into his stories, he is a master craftsman for sure.
Thanks to Mark Tilbury for the copy of this book so I could write this review for his republication day.
