‘Spider Hunting’ by K.J. McGillick is the second book in A Conspiracy of Betrayal series. I haven’t read the first book but this one read easily as a standalone for me.

We meet Asia Blythe, a lawyer who works at the Lannister and Stewart practice. One of the partners, Drew Bradley has been killed, so there is space for a new partner. Asia is still working her way to partner status and isn’t expecting any offers for at least three years yet. She is covering some of the missing partners high profile cases and is flabbergasted when she is offered the option to buy in to be a partner. As she works on one of the cases, she discovers a lot of things don’t add up and finds herself torn between being partner and investigating this mysterious case as it seems to be hinting at crime on an international level and illegal activities.
The firm’s private investigator, Sam Flynn helps Asia attempt to protect her career and ergo the firm. Sam decides to involve global security expert, Jaxon Brandt, a character that makes an appearance in book one also. It seems Asia has a dodgy Russian client that Jaxon knows of, so Sam brings him in. Asia begins to have serious doubts about the dangerous web they seem caught in until the unthinkable almost happens….then there is no going back until the truth is out there.

This is such a brilliant tense, suspense-filled thriller that I want to read everything by this author. The dodgy dealings that are discovered are always a possibility in any lawyers office anywhere in the world, and this story had me feeling it could be real. The characters are great, I enjoyed getting to know Asia. Her feistiness and bravery stand her good stead in this story. The story is a fast-paced one that hooks you in immediately with all the murder, mysteries, espionage, treason and the danger that this story brings. I was clicking my pages so quickly I am surprised my kindle didn’t shut down!

I was as intrigued as Asia was and needed to find out how it ended as soon as I could. Needless to say, I read an awful lot over 2 days.
Many thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and K.J McKillick for my copy of this fantastic book and for allowing me to take part in the tour today.
