Rod Humphris – The Simon Ellice Series (4 Books)

‘The Simon Ellice Series’ incorperates Deadground, Go Fast, Starlight and Bloodstock by Rod Humphris. These are a set of books that are all different in their own way. Not everyone will enjoy these, but I am happy to clarify: I did!

‘Bloodstock’ is the newest release and we get caught up with Simon and his life. I do think Bloodstock can be read without the rest first, but in my humble opinion, every other book gives you a feel for this man, who I can easily call an action man. I tend to liken Simon to a Bond type of man. He gets caught up in all sorts constantly.

‘Deadground’ sees him in Afghanistan, serving in the Army and fighting Taliban. This is written in such an authentic way, I could have been there. I was so into it I wished it wasn’t a Novella.

‘Go Fast’ is the first full novel Simon has starred in, this time we see him in Morrocco, getting up to no good running Hash from Morrocco to Spain in his boat, getting himself in the middle of illegal things.

In ‘Starlight’ we find him in Jamaica, this time spending too much time with the Hollywood set and this leads to more excitement again. This man is unshakeable, I think he is a magnet for trouble, but it does make for some exhilarating adventures.

‘Bloodstock’ sees him getting dragged into the London’s underworld to try to uncover poisonings, pagan rituals and murders. His friends go missing and turn up dead, so as Simon does, he attempts to get it all sorted.

I thought the illustrations in the books are a unique touch. They add something to each book, although they aren’t used as much in Bloodstock as they are in the others they still added to it.

I highly recommend all these books for a cracking read and to transport your way out of this Lockdown year!
