‘The Stolen Sisters’ by Louise Jensen is a psychological thriller from, in my opinion, a fantastic storyteller. I am lucky enough to be allowed to take part in the tour alongside other great bloggers and I am so grateful. I was looking forward to this book and it did not disappoint at all!
Three sisters, Carly, Marie and Leah Sinclair were snatched from outside their house twenty years previously. They were kept in a dark and ramshackle room locked up by two men. Luckily (extremely) they managed to escape but the hell they experienced in that room, captive, never left them. Carly, the eldest, will never give herself a break over not protecting her younger twin siblings. She stays alone and allows no-one in. Leah’s marriage is under serious threat due to her odd behaviour and Marie is drinking herself to death. As always there are secrets being kept but the question is, how long will they stay secrets?

The Stolen Sisters is told from the past, as the girls are kidnapped as children and it then moves to the present day. There we are, witness, to the long term effects the event had on every one of them. Leah’s anxiety and fear grow as the day they were taken starts to loom and we see her go downhill. The way Leah is reacting causes her quality of life to be nothing, I really felt for Leah, the trauma she experienced impacted her so much I could have cried at this point. Carly, I had my heart ripped out for. The past is mainly told by her point of view and, Oh! She was broken by the fact she took on the maternal role while they were kidnapped and she cannot get over the fact she could not protect them enough. In fact, my heart was ripped out, then stamped on. I can definitely empathise with her as I truly feel the same in my family life.
This is a story that you think you can tell where it will go, but that’s the beauty of a skilful writer. They veer off down what could be seen as a blind alley and there is no turning back! Louise Jensen manages to create a dark and very twisted story that kept me glued to the book and turning the pages as fast as I could! A belter of a book!
