Jill Childs – The Mistress

‘The Mistress’ by Jill Childs is a book I could not put down! A thriller that is told from two perspectives, forming two sections to the book.

Jill Childs

The first part is told from Laura, the mistress’s point of view. Then the second part from Helen, the wife who has been cheated on. The subject of these perspectives is Ralph, a man who obviously loves women, a bit too much if you ask me! His other interests are poetry and the arts. A charismatic man who dies at the very dramatic start of this upside-down story. We even discover who has killed him, but do not put this book in a box filed away just yet.

The two sections of the book serve to highlight the differences between Laura and Helen, in how they both react to the situation and it soon becomes clear that these truly different responses are what makes this book as good as it is!

I found it a fantastically well-paced story in the first half and then the second half steps it up even more. A plot that was unexpected due to what I thought at the beginning and that really kept me hooked. Packed full of deceit, scheming and lies. I was never short of a gasp or a ‘No Way!’ when things are brought to light. Then we have the twists and turns to the plot that are well enough placed to have me on the edge of my seat, waiting for the next surprise or shock that Jill Childs had in store for me. A brilliant book.

Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for my copy of the book and the place on the blog tour for this edge of your seat book today.
