‘The Quality Of Mercy’ by Malia Zaidi is the fifth book in the Lady Evelyn Carlisle Mystery series.

Lady Evelyn has had a penchant for finding dead bodies for a while now and usually ends up investigating under her own steam. To this end, she has decided to set up her own investigating agency with her friend Hugh. The story is set in 1920s London and we join Evelyn on her very first case as an agency. As is normal, it is a murder case, and, yes Evelyn discovered the body. The victim is the father of one of her childhood friends and the list of possible suspects is rather long. As this is being investigated, another murder happens and soon she is juggling both cases at once. These cases do highlight the class difference between the upper class and lower class people and how they were still apparent after World War One. I thought that was a bit of important information for people of today to think about.
Lady Evelyn is definitely a beacon for the women in this time, she has her own company, has her own property, although her fiance ( Aunt is attempting to get a double wedding lined up, but Evelyn’s not falling for it!) has a mansion and she spends the majority of her time there. She is a highly educated woman, which is very rare for the time. I was really happy to get to know this strong woman (although she does find dead people an awful lot too!).
This is the fifth book but I had no problems just jumping in and following Lady Evelyn and her mysteries. Majority of the characters were likeable and fully rounded too. Even the ones that weren’t have been created fully. A brilliant cosy and thrilling mystery from the 1920s if you like Sherlock and suchlike.

Thank you to Damp Pebbles Blog Tours for allowing me to be a part of the Blog Tour and gifting a copy of the book for today.
