‘Ordinary Hazards’ by Anna Bruno is a book that takes place over one night. It is a very heartbreaking story of Emma, who meets Lucas then they marry and share their lives with each other and it culminates in them splitting up.

Emma is in her local bar, where she met Lucas on a blind date, drinking with the regulars. In life, she is a high achieving businesswoman but in this bar, she is feeling sad, guilty in fact almost depressed. The guilt and her grief are almost touchable. The story unfolds by the hour and we are witnesses to the flashbacks of Emma’s story. Emma does not just look at herself, she also has stories about the other people in the bar, most of whom she met through Lucas. These people are those who live in a town, best days where in high school and they are stuck in a rut, no going forward or even backwards.
A story from a debut author that is cleverly put together, the backwards view is always the way you can put things right. Emma’s emotions run deep and are tangible. what is Emma’s story? what made them split? Where is Lucas now? Can she move forward herself? This night will cause change, definitely, but what will change and is it good or bad change?

The emotion in this story touched me and I was almost in tears myself! I do think that Anna Bruno has written a book that proves a debut book CAN be this good! A more engrossing story than I first thought it would be for sure.
Thank you to Randon Things Tours and the publisher for the copy of the book to write a review.
