‘Within The Shadows: A Contract For Life’ by T.L Mahrt is the second story in the With Emma series. With Withstanding The Enemy, the first book we experienced a dark and heavy storyline. This book while still dealing with heavy stuff we also have lighter subjects, like a bit of romance which makes for an entertaining read.
In this book, Chance and his team are still hunting for Emma’s kidnapping because while they are still out there Emma will never be safe, so never fear, the action is still a part of the book. While Chance and the team are trying to keep her safe, Emma is attempting to overcome all the trauma what we learn happened to her in the first book and at the start of this one. She has to fight her demons and hopes that when she has managed to come to terms with everything that Chance will still want and love her.
As Emma works through her pain, we see someone else on the horizon that may just have a chance with Emma, too. I personally like Chance and think for all he has done and is still doing, he shows he cares for her.
Well, there are quite a few twists and turns again in this story, which leave us wondering what will happen next.
This is a series of books that has a bit of something for almost everyone, the dark brutality of the first book plus the romance which we find quite a lot more in this book. I was almost shouting at Emma in her dilemma’s. I am truly in her world when I pick up these books. Looking forward to the third book now!
