Steve Searls – My Travels With A Dead Man

‘My Travels With A Dead Man’ by Steve Searls is a thrilling time-travelling story that grabs you on the first page and whisks you away with it until the last page.

We meet Jane Takako Wolfsheim, a young woman who was suffering blackouts and fits. One day she is having a fit and a stranger phones an ambulance. That stranger is Jorge Luis Borges and this meeting will change Jane’s life totally. After Jorge gets Jane medical help she discovers she can alter time and space. Alongside her new abilities she falls for Jorge, a charismatic man but he has many failings also. He has nightmares of a demonic figure “the man in black”, he lies and emotionally abuses Jane, all this together almost has her losing her sanity.

As the story evolves we see Jane being given cryptic advice from the many ghosts and even a statue of Buddha come to her in her dreams. Jane struggles to comes to term with her abilities and the ones of the powerful and mysterious ghosts and gods that appear to her.

A definite different story, of that there is no doubt. The author’s world-building is brilliant and the characters are well developed. I actually had a chuckle at Jorge from time to time. A skillfully spun story with many layers, that has a bit of everything you want in a book. We experience, time travel, adventure, romance, meditation, mysticism, tragedy and even terror. It had me gripped until the end a definite thrilling tale.

Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and the publisher for giving me the copy of this book for the blog tour.
