‘Dead Woman Scorned’ is the sequel to ‘The Patience Of A Dead Man’, both written by Michael Clark. This book sees us moving away from the location of the first book and we learn about Mildred’s past life (a ghost that is not on the good side shall we say) then flipping back into the 1970s to throw Tim and Holly into Mildred’s malicious path. We do see some of the characters from the first book, but Mildred is less concerned about them this time.

To fully enjoy this book, I do feel you need to have read The Patience Of A Dead Man, if only for continuance, understanding the characters and what went before. Mildred’s back story is one that is more interesting than the norm, and also so much darker and filled with brutality. Growing up in a cult, with a leader who is determined to be a revenant. A little girl named Mary and, yes a special secret book that you learn spells from and as you learn them the book adds pages magically. All these things made it so Mildred didn’t die correctly or fully, so, here we have Mildred wreaking havoc.
I felt a little bit more sympathetic knowing her background than in the first book where I was just actually a little scared of her! Knowing how she was brought up and the weird, dark and horrible things she experienced at least gave a snapshot of why she was like that.

I love this author’s storytelling and again, as I was with the first book, I found my heart was in my mouth at various points in the book. A definite dark and brutal story! A detailed and well-written book that is as good as the first. Looking forward to number three, although a bit sad as well as Book three is the final book in the series.

With thanks to Damp Pebbles Blog Tours and the publisher for the copy of the book for the blog tour today, it has been my pleasure to tell you my thoughts on this really interesting and immersive book.

Thanks so much x
