Chrissie Bradshaw – Rose’s Choice

‘Rose’s Choice’ by Chrissie Bradshaw is the start of a new saga series called The Colliery Rows. I always love a bit of historical fiction being a bit of a history nut and this ticked all the boxes for me. It is about the mining community in the North East and although I am from the North West my family history is linked to the mines and the mills of yesteryear, I always love to read about these type of communities.

Chrissie Bradshaw

The book begins when Rose is a baby and we follow her through her life until she matures into a beautiful young woman with all the things we want our own children to be, caring compassionate but also with a stubborn streak. I loved Rose, as a character, she just made me want to scoop her up and give a hug! The courage she faced every hardship with just had me willing her on and hoping she found the better life, the things she wanted to do for herself.

An absolutely beautifully written family saga that pulls you straight into that world, that, if you shut your eyes, you could actually be there suffering with their tragedies, cheering with their joys. I am so happy there will be other books as I am looking forward to spending more time in The Colliery Rows!

I must thank Rachels Random Resources for including me on this nostalgic blog tour and allowing me to read this book.
