Eve Smith – The Waiting Rooms

‘The Waiting Rooms’ by Eve Smith is a thriller that has been released during a time that the world has been in the middle of a pandemic of COVID-19. This has made The Waiting Rooms even more of a relevant read than it would have been twelve months ago. The dystopian society she has skilfully created is horrifyingly too real for today. The book is very well researched about the medical side to the story, a world where antibiotics are no good against a certain strain of TB (COVID-19 anyone?).

Eve Smith

The story begins many years before the health crisis starts but this builds the tension and you have gained insight into the characters in the book. The medical jargon and all the research for the book does not make it a drag to read, it improves the book. I really felt every emotion reading this, especially now. We have all been aware of antibiotics being used less in the recent years due to the viruses etc becoming more drug-resistant but this book scares me even more than this year has done!

A good mix of mystery, romance and the sacrifices people make for me anyway. Eve Smith has written a showstopper of a book and will stay with me forever I think, due to the timing of the release of The Waiting Rooms. I loved being part of the Orenda Books Blog Tour for this book.
