‘The Creak on the Stairs’ is a debut novel by Eva Björg Ægisdóttir and translated by Victoria Cribb, set the Iceland town of Akranes. A darkly, atmospheric new police procedural/thriller.

Eva has just returned to her home town, grudgingly, due to a relationship breakdown. Her new job for the Akranes CID probably won’t be half as exciting as her previous job in Reykjavik’s police force but it’s a job. A body of a woman is found in the water near the lighthouse and Eva and her colleagues find themselves with a bigger investigation than they could have ever thought.
This book brought home to me again, just how much I love Scandinavian crime books! They are always so dark, atmospheric and chilling and this book is no different! The scenes Eva sets in Akranes is brought to life within the pages, I literally felt every bitter wind that blew and the scenes were described stunningly!
The story is exquisitely crafted with twists and turns all the way through. There are difficult themes within the story but it is dealt with delicately without feeling needless. A creak On The Stairs is the first of a new series and, yes, I am ready for the next book already! With Thanks to Orenda Books for letting me join this Blog Tour.
