Vanda Symon – Containment

The third in a series of books set in Dunedin, New Zealand and featuring Detective Constable Sam Shepard.

This is the first book I have read in this series and found it easy to pick up and get into quickly as well. Sam is a fast tracked D.C and is never allowed to forget it by her boss, D.I Johns. She is always given the grunt work, but she just gets on with it.

The book opens with Sam on her day off, which quickly turns into more of a work day, when she discovers a ship thats been grounded in the bay. Shipping containers are everywhere and looting has began by the time she gets there. Sam attempts to stop the looting, but her attempts are thwarted by a looter getting physical! Well, one thing leads to another and madness prevails, ending up with Sam on sick leave! Upon her return she is given the usual, what is considered to be a bad job…but for once turns into a job that has some meat on it! Much to the resentment of D.I Johns!

I enjoyed the relationship between Sam and her best friend Maggie, a no holds barred one, even the question of Sam’s boyfriend moving closer to her, too close for Sam, is one Maggie has her opinion of and does not think twice to voice it.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Dunedin, living in Sam’s world which is what it felt like while reading it. Deeply engrossing and left me wanting to buy the first two just because I love Sam! Thanks to Anne Cater and Orendo books for allowing me to be a part of this book tour.
